BERLIN, Md. – North Carolina A&T women’s golf won its first tournament of the season by 19 strokes as three Aggies finished in the top-5 Wednesday at the Ocean City Golf & Yacht Club at the UMES Collegiate Cup Challenge.
It marks the sixth time the Aggies have won a tournament since the program started in 2016.
Vileska Gelpi (FR, Rockwood, Pa.) entered the day in first place but shot an 81 in the second round to finish in a tie for second place with teammate Jayla Rogers (JR, Wilmington, N.C.) with an 10-over 155, one stroke behind first place.
Rogers shot a team-best 75 in the second round. It was the third-best score on the day. Isabela Miravite (GR, Markina City, Philippines) shot a 78 in the second round to finish one stroke behind Gelpi and Rogers for a 11-over 156.
Kiaira Porter (JR, Monaca, Pa.) shot an 82 in the second round for a two-round score of 168. Maria “Xus” Boira (GR, Lleida, Spain) shot an 85 in the second round for a two-round score of 169.
The Aggies recorded a two-round score of 632 after a second-round 316. Wagner finished second with a 651 after a 314 in the second round. N.C. Central finished third with a 721 and Maryland Eastern Shore finished last with a 746.
Next week, the Aggies are back in action, returning to Greensboro for the UNCG Grandover Classic from Nov. 1-2.
