BURLINGTON – North Carolina A&T finished fifth at the Elon Invitational Tuesday morning on the par-71, 6,301-yard Alamance Country Club golf course. Three Aggie golfers finished in the top-15.

Battling the rainy conditions, Christyn Carr (SR, Atlanta, Ga.) led the Aggies with a 3-over par 74 in the final round to give her a 13-over par 226 after three rounds to finish tied for 12th. Carr made a double-bogey on the 318-yard, par-4, 11th, and a bogey on the 190-yard, par-3, 14th. However, she got one of the shots back on the 153-yard, par-3, 16th by birding to cut 2-over par on the back nine.

Vileska Gelpi (FR, Rockwood, Pa.) finished second on the team in her first collegiate tournament after shooting a 6-over par 77 in the final round for a three-round score of 16-over par 229 to place tied for 14th.

Gelpi started strong by birding 11 and 12 (492-yard, par-5) to go 2-under par. But a bogey and a double-bogey on the 355-yard, par-4, 13th, and a bogey on the 14th put her at 1-over par. She got back to even par after birding the 342-yard, par-4, 15th.

The Aggies leader after the first day, Isabela Miravite (GR, Markina City, Philippines), shot an 83 in the final round to finish in a tie for 19th with a three-round score of 18-over par 231.

Jayla Rogers (JR, Wilmington, N.C.) shot an 82 in the final round to finish in 32nd place with a three-round score of 246. Maria “Xus” Boira (GR, Lleida, Spain) completed the final round with an 86 for a three-round score of 250 in a tie for 35th place.

The Aggies recorded the fifth-best final round score with a 316 for a three-round total of 931. William & Mary won the tournament with a 29-over, 881, followed by Elon, Gardner-Webb, Appalachian State and A&T in the top-5. A&T shot a 79-over, 931.
